About A.R.T.

A.R.T.

Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) is an advanced method of treating damage to soft tissues. A.R.T. was developed and patented by Dr. Mike Leahy, a Chiropractor and Aeronautical Engineer. This treatment is based on scientific evidence that muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and blood vessels develop scar tissue following injury sustained by trauma (ex: sprains, strains), repetitive motion (ex: typing, sitting at a desk, throwing a baseball) and exercise. This scar tissue can cause muscles and joints to have altered movement resulting in a variety of symptoms including pain, decreased range of motion, weakness, and numbness or tingling.

Dr. Olson has been trained as an A.R.T. practitioner. Contact him at the Long Island Spine & Sports Injury Center for chiropractic and A.R.T. techniques to help with your sports injuries and repetitive movement pain.

A.R.T. treats many conditions

  • Back, Neck and Shoulder Pain
  • Strains and Sprains
  • Sciatica
  • Muscular Pain
  • Numbness and Tingling
  • Headaches
  • Pinched Nerves
  • Trigger Points
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle Spasms & Cramps
  • Ligament Injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
  • Pain associated with Herniated Discs

Although A.R.T. appears like other forms of treatment, it is completely different. A.R.T. practitioners use their hands to break up the scar tissue so that the soft tissue can function normally. The body will then absorb the scar tissue. Active release works for almost every part of the body so there are considerable benefits for a variety of injuries and conditions.

A.R.T.: proven effective and safe

The treatment is "hands-on"...

A.R.T. practitioners have undergone rigorous training, testing, and evaluation in order to perform this breakthrough method. They identify and correct abnormal changes in muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves that result from injury or overuse.

A.R.T.: all about individuality

Most injuries result from overworked and under-stretched muscles that become short, stiff and painful. This innovative treatment enables athletes to maintain demanding training regiments while helping injuries heal faster, and preventing further damage. The word is spreading among professional athletes that A.R.T. may be exactly what they need in order to "get in the game" and stay there!

A.R.T.: the choice of professional athletes

Professional athletes from a wide variety of sports have benefited from A.R.T. treatments. Whether recovering from surgery or suffering pain from an injury, athletes are able to maintain their competitive level of play after receiving A.R.T. treatments. Dr. Gary Olson previously worked as the Chiropractor and Active Release Techniques provider for the Long Island Rough Riders Professional Soccer Team and the Long Island Lizards Professional Lacrosse Team. The professional athletes he has treated can attest to the benefits of A.R.T.
